Double Blue Cut Crystal Travelling Scent Bottle, France, 19th Century

Hexagonal-shaped double perfume bottle for a travel kit, made of cobalt-blue tinted crystal with faceted sides, fitted at each end with a hinged gold-plated metal mount.
French craftsmanship. 19th century.
L_10 cm.

In perfect condition.

Double bottles, often referred to as ‘travel kit bottles’, featured a double opening designed to hold two different essences or preparations, most commonly perfume or toilet vinegar salts. The craft of faceted crystal, combined with deep hues such as cobalt blue or ruby red, was a speciality of crystal workshops during the Restoration and the Second Empire, and was particularly sought after for ladies’ handbag accessories or travel kits. Our item follows in the tradition of 19th-century luxury toiletries and travel kits, illustrating the technical refinement and elegance of French tabletterie and crystalware of that era.
