Porcelain Easter egg with an emerald-green ground – decorated with an oval reserved medallion in white porcelain, painted with a bouquet of polychrome flowers centred by a fully opened rose, bordered by gilt scrolls and foliate ornaments; the ends entirely heightened with gold.

Finely crafted by Russian porcelain workshops, artistic eggs decorated with miniature floral bouquets belong to a noble springtime tradition of Easter celebrations, particularly cherished by the high aristocracy and the Imperial family. Porcelain Easter eggs were produced by the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory in Saint Petersburg throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, including examples decorated with floral compositions and gilt ornament.
Our Easter egg, representative of the Romantic vein in late nineteenth-century art production, is distinguished by the vividness of its emerald-green ground and the care lavished on the details of its floral painting.
