Circular soft-paste porcelain dish, with a polyptych decoration known as ‘arabesques’ or ‘birds and torch’, painted in polychrome enamels and gold, edged with a sky-blue marli and a gilt border featuring oves motifs.
France. 18th century, 1790 (date letter MM).
Marked on the reverse beneath the rim with two interlaced Ls alongside the date letter MM (for 1790), the painter’s mark of Étienne-Gabriel Girard (1762–1800) and the gilder’s mark L. for Étienne-Henry Le Guay (1719/1720–1799)

This circular piece is distinguished by the exquisite finesse of its polychrome decoration, featuring foliage, arabesque scrolls, exotic birds and a flaming torch at the centre – characteristic of the refined Neoclassical taste of the reign of Louis XVI.

This piece is part of the ceremonial ware produced by the Royal Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory in the late 18th century, renowned for the excellence of its painters and decorators and the richness of its arabesque designs.
