Italian Gilt-filigree And Scarab Micromosaic Parure — Late 19th Century
ITALIAN WORK, LATE 19TH CENTURY
Parure in gilt-metal filigree and coloured-glass micromosaic tesserae, comprising a pendant brooch and a pair of drop earrings with chain tassels.
Each element is centred by a circular medallion depicting an insect—a scarab or beetle—on a white ground, set within a lobed and multilobed surround decorated with blue, red and white scrollwork and geometric motifs. The whole is enhanced with small disc-shaped pendant elements.
Brooch fitting to the reverse, with a suspension loop for use as a pendant; hooks for pierced ears.
