An emblematic specialty of the great Murano glass houses from the 1950s and 1960s — such as Barovier & Toso, A.V.E.M., or Fratelli Toso — the creation of trompe-l'œil decorative objects in the form of fruits combines the pursuit of organic textures with extremely precise expertise. The technique of inclusions of colored powders and pigments fused in the mass produces a speckled coat vibrating under the light, here rendered in a spectacular cobalt blue and crowned by a gripping stem in gilt metal.

This covered box in cobalt blue Murano blown glass in the form of a pear by Barovier & Toso (or attributed) constitutes a magnificent witness to Italian glass design from the mid-20th century, combining the elegance of forms and the brilliance of the material.
