"cote De Maille" Evening Bag In Sterling Silver, Late Nineteenth Century.

Large silver purse making evening bag.

The bag is made up of a frame decorated with bows, garlands of roses and trellises, typical of the end of the 19th century, before Art Nouveau. The closure is formed by two pine cones.
The body of the bag is an assembly of tiny silver rings forming a "chainmail".
A chain allows it to be worn around the wrist.

These all-silver bags were very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The bag is stamped:
. Foreign goldsmith hallmark to be identified: AS with two stars in an oval
. Weevil hallmark for imported works, with a minimum title of 800/°°


17 cm wide at the frame
15.5 cm long, excluding closure system and chain.

Good general condition with some lacks and repair with thread on the chainmail.
