Toppai Jingasa Edo Period - 18-19th Century - Japan
Authentic Edo period Jingasa, conical shaped Samurai headdress called Toppai Jingasa in wood covered with black lacquered leather depicting a kamon, a heraldic badge in red & gold made up of three circles. The red lacquered interior with leather bands for chin bar, known as ago-himo. In good condition for the age despite leather gaps at the end of the helmet (see photos). The interior with zabuton, a protective cushion for the head. A chin bar, called ago-himo is also present (not original). Diameter: 32.5 cm Height: 14 cm Reference S1866 Provenance: The Jingasas for sale belonged to a private collection to the directors of Bapty & Co, Mark & Peter Dineley, recognized for being the largest suppliers of arms and armor for uses in theater and cinema.
