American Officer's Sword With Eagle Head Circa 1820

Very rare American Officer's sword, dating from before the American Civil War. 79cm straight blade with flat back, counter edge and fuller with patina and gilt engravings on the third. The riccasso blade maker's initials within a golden bow ⦅SHF⦆ Simon Helvig & Son. Brass mount, chiseled with eagle head pommel. Melon slice bone wafer rocket. One branch guard with eagle behind federal shield. Play at the hilt, no play between the blade and the handle. Scabbard entirely in gilt and bare brass, with button in the shape of a shield and two pegs of brass bails. A small chip 25cm from the sting. Total length 94cm. Weight 780g (with sheath) Ref - S4723
