Dagger 'choora' From Punjab Gifted By Colonel Jg Wainwright
Dagger 'Choora' from Punjab Donated by Colonel JG Wainwright Blade: 23.5 cm Total length: 35 cm Dagger with long tapered steel blade with reinforced point 'zirah bouk'. Light decorations on the blade with “PRESENTED BY WOR. BRO. COLONEL JG WAINWRIGHT PM, PDGD (PUNJAB) 6th FEB 1951” of two gold stars. The heel of the blade is inlaid with sawtooth-cut silver. The handle is made of two plates of cut bone riveted twice. Wooden scabbard covered with leather and a red fabric. JG Wainwright is a Colonel of Force K6, the only men of the Indian army fighting in Europe for the English between 1939-1945. A force of 4,227 men, of which 630 were present during the famous evacuation of Dunkirk, the archives tell us that Colonel JG Wainwright was present at this operation. Ref S3084
