This is one of the most impressive and important bayonets of the British Victorian era! Extremely rare, British East India Company sapper's and miner's sword bayonet made by Heighington. Designed to fit a British sapper's and miner's P1841 carbine, it also fits all East India Company muskets with a 75 caliber and the F-style bayonet spring catch of straight style. This bayonet features a 562mm single-edged blade with a flat spine and a deep single fuller on both sides. The last 12 cm of the upper edge are sharpened and the blade ends with a spear point. The blade is in good condition and free of rust, with only light age-related tarnishing and a few small areas of very shallow pitting. This bayonet was manufactured between 1845/1847. This very difficult to find bayonet has a total length of 695 mm and is in good general condition with a beautiful aged gray patina (with orange stains). Guaranteed of origin, it is a “must have” bayonet for many collectors.
