Knight's Long Sword – 14th Century
Knight’s Long Sword – 14th century
Long sword of British or French origin.
These swords are extremely rare when found in good condition.
The hilt consists of a handle covered in wood and leather, topped by a cross-guard. The ends of the quillons feature inlays of twisted copper wire set into grooves.
The blade and pommel fit together perfectly; the entire assembly is perfectly integrated, with no play or instability. The pommel also features inlays of twisted copper wire inserted into several grooves; as might be expected, these elements show some wear and even some missing sections due to the object’s long history.
A large, rounded pommel integrates perfectly with the sword, providing a very effective counterweight. The weapon is perfectly balanced and easy to handle.
