Japanese armor from the Edo period (1603-1868). Composite armor: Helmet (Kabuto): lacquered wood imitating a sujibachi with sixteen brown plates, the plates made of twisted shibuichi imitating welds, copper tehen kanamono in the shape of a kiku. Neck guard (Shikoro): five-plate lacquered wood hineno. Wing guards (fukigaeshi): wood and leather with two apricot shoots of the saga gyoyo type in gilded copper. Central ornament (maedate): openwork copper chrysanthemums. Visor (mabisashi): wood. Throat mask (yodarekake): three brown lacquered iron plates, laced blue. Cuirass (do): nine-plate lacquered wood yokohagi nimai-do. - Skirt (kusazuri): five strips of brown lacquered wood imitating leather. - Shoulder pads (sode): six strips of brown lacquered wood imitating leather. - Armbands (kote): black lacquered iron shino. - Underskirt (haidate): etchu with four rows of seven black lacquered iron plates. - Leg guards (suneate): shino with five black lacquered iron plates. - Wood (yoro bitsu): made of wood.
