Raymond Dierickx : "christ And The Paralytic / The Batellery"

Raymond Dierickx (1904-1978) “Christ and the Paralytic / Study for the Boat Industry”, large mixed technique, watercolor and pastel on 90 X 98 cm paper.
One of the first works by Dierickx that we sold was a fresco project called “Study for Navigation”. By buying this one, we now know what it was exactly: a large frieze for the Provincial School of Boatwork. This detail of a mermaid holding a wheel is therefore the final dimension and we realize that it must have been impressive once on the wall! The other side, much more successful although not signed, shows us two figures in busts, some details of which indicate that it is about Christ and the Paralytic, still placed, as Brughels did before him, in his contemporary Belgium.
Not assembled, small folds and peripheral tears. It was for us a real discovery that this beautiful Belgian artist !
Even found in leaves and dusty, these drawings, once prepared and framed, reveal all the talent of Dierickx, close to artists like Nicolas Eeckmann, Fritz Van den Berghe, Constant Permeke or other typically Flemish expressionists such as Anto Carte, representing Fêtes , processions, fairs in the great tradition of Flemish painters dating back to the 17th century with the Brughels, but treated with great modernity. Other facets of his work show us his projects for frescoes or large decorations, often exotic, while in the old watercolors, we find a Symbolist vein with an elongated barrel.
