Don Baum (1922-2008): "Box / Surrealist assembly with the mummy", collage 40.5 X 49 cm presented under glass in the bottom of a box 42 X 51 X 6 cm. A pivotal work in the Artist's career, it makes the junction between his first more classic painting works, his famous assemblies in boxes from which, like those of a Joseph Cornell, there emerges a great poetry that is certainly absurd, but Oh how much speaking ... Since many of his titles are in French, I guess he came to France around the time of this object's making and must have given it away. Made up of fragments of painted canvases, assembled in collages with photos and engravings, largely reproduced in gouache on top, it is signed and dated 1958.
Present in a lot of american museums.
