Veronique Wirbel : “the Lovers”
VéroniqueWirbel (1950–1990) : “Les amoureux,” watercolor with gouache, 38 × 28 cm, bearing the studio stamp in the lower right corner and on the back, mounted on a mat, 60 ×40 cm.
There are encounters that, in hindsight, seem obvious.
Such is the case with the work of Véronique Wirbel, who tragically passed away at barely 40 years old,as rich as a child’s imagination, as colorful as the fabricsfrom Africa that she knew well, having spent her childhood there, andradiating a joy that, alas, she apparently did not share…
Of course, we could find parallels between her work and that of Corneille, Basquiat,James Brown, or Aloïse, but she was simply Wirbel.
This drawing comes from the artist’s studio, which we were fortunate enough toacquire and which we will gradually prepare and put up forsale.
We are constantly on the lookout for works by this artist.
