Hagenauer – Art Deco Brass Dancer, Small Model
Welcome to La Trésorerie.
An elegant brass dancer, attributed to the Werkstätte Hagenauer Wien, likely depicting the famous dancer Josephine Baker.
The highly stylized figure features a gracefully curved body, long legs in a sweeping walking posture, and raised arms. The face is reduced to a smooth oval, while a few lines outline the hair. Together, these elements create a particularly expressive silhouette, characteristic of Art Deco.
This is the small version, with the brass figure measuring 22.2 cm in height. The bracelet encircling the raised forearm is a separate, movable element that was not cast as part of the figure.
The figure rests on a rectangular black glass base, likely dating from 1935–1940. This base replaces the original brass part. The original base always had the Hagenauer stamp on the bottom (and number), so because of the replacement the item is not signed.
The brass has a warm golden-brown hue, with a patina and slight superficial signs of wear. The black glass base is in good condition, with no chips on the edges. The photographs are an integral part of the description.
Dimensions and weight:
Height of the brass figure: 22.2 cm.
Total height with base: 24 cm.
Base: 22 × 9.2 cm.
Total weight with base: 1,034 grams.
An expressive and decorative sculpture for lovers of Art Deco and Hagenauer’s stylized aesthetic.
