Louis XV Chest Of Drawers, Curved On All Sides, 18th Century
Exceptional Louis XV-era chest of drawers in satinwood and violetwood marquetry
A remarkable Louis XV-period chest of drawers, with a curved and dynamic form, featuring an elegantly scalloped front that opens to reveal two wide drawers with no visible crossbars.
It stands out for the sumptuousness of its satinwood marquetry, with warm and luminous tones, arranged in geometric patterns and butterfly wings, accented by beautiful frames of violet wood veneer, whose deep hues contrast harmoniously with the golden highlights of the satinwood.
The front, curved along its entire height, is enlivened by a skillful composition of carefully arranged veneers, highlighting the natural grain of the precious woods. The sides, also curved, feature marquetry with symmetrical motifs, reflecting the care taken in the craftsmanship and the decorative design of the piece as a whole.
Rich ornamentation of chiseled gilded bronze highlights the piece’s sinuous lines: leafy corner finials, scroll-adorned feet, and finely crafted keyholes and handles. A prominent rocaille motif in gilded bronze accentuates the top panel, in a style fully characteristic of the Louis XV aesthetic.
The piece is topped with a magnificent piece of Flanders breccia marble, featuring polychrome veining that blends shades of gray, pink, brown, and beige. Its scroll-cut edge perfectly follows the contours of the piece and contributes to its sculptural elegance.
The quality of the marquetry, the richness of the gilded bronze, the harmony of the proportions, and the nobility of the materials give this chest of drawers a remarkable decorative presence.
A piece of great character, representative of the refinement of 18th-century Parisian cabinetmaking, intended for the most elegant interiors and connoisseurs of exceptional French furniture.
