An elegant, high-quality chest of drawers with a raised top, stamped by master cabinetmaker Pierre Roussel (1723–1782), who received his master’s certificate in 1745 and was a leading figure in 18th-century Parisian cabinetmaking.
This Louis XV-era piece perfectly illustrates the refinement of the work produced by this workshop, renowned for the quality of its veneers, the delicacy of its bronze fittings, and the harmony of its proportions.

The delicately curved front features two wide drawers, resting on original drawer slides, with a single key.
The sides are also curved, making this chest of drawers an “all-around” piece, allowing for a particularly sought-after display.

The entire piece is veneered with a remarkable rosewood veneer, arranged in herringbone and butterfly wing patterns, highlighting a rich and particularly decorative grain.
The compartments are highlighted by fine, light-colored wood fillets, forming scroll-cut cartouches that elegantly follow the curves of the piece.
The sides receive the same decorative attention with a cross-grain veneer framed by a dynamic fillet, attesting to a particularly meticulous craftsmanship.

The piece is topped with a superb piece of antique Rouge des Flandres marble—thick and perfectly fitted—whose warm hue, blending deep reds, white veins, and rosy undertones, harmonizes beautifully with the richness of the veneer.
Its molded edge faithfully follows the curved lines of the chest of drawers.

The chiseled and gilded bronze hardware is of exceptional quality: double-coiled rocaille pull handles, finely openwork lock plates, foliage-patterned finials on the side panels, and enveloping foot caps.
The lower crossbar is adorned with an elegant scalloped apron centered by a bold rocaille motif in gilded bronze, which accentuates the movement of the front.

The side panels extend into slender, arched legs that are perfectly proportioned and finished with their original footplates.
The bronze fittings feature beautiful chiseling and a luminous gilding that enhances the piece’s overall elegance.

The interior retains its oak drawers fitted with dovetail joints, reflecting a traditional construction method in keeping with the practices of 18th-century Parisian cabinetmaking.
The “P. ROUSSEL” mark is clearly visible on a front stanchion, accompanied by the guild hallmark, guaranteeing its authenticity.
