Pair Of Louis XV Armchairs – Rome
A refined and extremely rare pair of Louis XV-era armchairs, of Roman provenance, crafted from finely carved and gilded wood.
The seats are distinguished by their elegant, undulating, and sinuous profile, featuring contoured, cartouche-shaped backrests embellished with a rich, carved cornice adorned with rocaille motifs, volutes, and floral compositions. The armrests, harmoniously integrated into the structure, feature richly carved supports, while the band below the seat is decorated with an elaborate ornamental repertoire of volutes, leaves, and plant motifs. The upholstery fabric is not period.
The legs, elegantly arched and joined by carvings of exceptional craftsmanship, lend the piece an extraordinary sense of compositional lightness, highlighting the refinement of 18th-century Roman decorative taste.
A pair of great charm and artistic quality, an expression of 18th-century Roman high cabinetmaking, particularly interesting for the richness of its decorative elements and the preciousness of its gilding, ideal for a collection of fine antiques.
