Gilded Wood (pair) With Cherubs
Each depicts a winged angel’s head, known as a cherub, flanked by foliage and ribbon scrollwork at the top and surmounted by a candlestick.
Lovely architectural details adorn the draped urns with their brown lacquered backgrounds.
Note: In architecture and furniture, winged angel heads appear in lintels, altarpieces, etc., symbolizing innocence and divine purity.
The fire pot, widely used in 18th-century classical architecture, evokes the eternal flame, faith, or prestige.
There are some chips and scattered wear on the gilding and paint (see the detailed photos); however, I consider both pieces to be in good condition given their age.
These two pieces are displayed on two modern, professionally crafted metal stands with a patina finish, which are included; a metal hook also allows them to be hung directly on a wall.
Height with stands: 60 cm.
