Pair Of Louis XVI Altar Vases
Beautiful pair of "palmette" altar vases in gilded wood, made with the silver and mixture technique, from the Louis XVI era of Sicilian cabinet-making production. Made of finely carved Swiss pine wood, the vases are worked in the round, have a circular base and are all worked with carving on a good part of them in the shape of acanthus leaves, small roses and grooved sections, with a final part in the shape of a pine cone where the palmettes were to be inserted on its top. They were used in ancient times and placed on the altars as decoration and in the upper part the palmettes were inserted, made of various materials such as fabric, microbeads etc., which symbolized the victory and majesty of Christianity.
