Hand-knotted Kutaya rug made of wool on wool.
An antique piece originating from eastern Turkey in Eastern Anatolia.
Knotted in the first half of the 20th century, circa 1900–1930.
A very comfortable rug that can withstand heavy foot traffic.
In very good condition, this rug measures 146 cm wide by 230 cm long.

The patterns and colors of Kutaya rugs are very similar to those of Yürük rugs (a people from Anatolia).
The motifs of the former are more linear, and the borders are simpler.
The hooks around the edges of the diamond shapes are absent.
However, their designs are very similar to those of Caucasian rugs.

Kutaya rugs are most often oblong in shape, with the following dimensions:
80/100 x 200/220------ 130/150 x 225/250------120/130 cm x 300/320 cm.
They are knotted in wool on wool.
We owe this type of rug to the work of the semi-nomadic Kutaya tribes.
They favor entirely geometric stylistic designs and a particularly harmonious color scheme, with an emphasis on blue, red, and cream.
These rugs are still knotted in villages as well as in larger “cooperative”-style workshops.
The colors regularly used are deep blue, deep red, ivory, and a touch of curry yellow.
