Plants And Flowers Of Parisian Gardens – Botanical Chromolithographs, 1867–1873

A set of eighteen chromolithographic botanical plates from Adolphe Alphand’s book *Les Promenades de Paris*, published by Jules Rothschild between 1867 and 1873.
Dedicated to the capital’s woods, parks, squares, and avenues, this book documents the major landscaping projects that transformed Paris during the Second Empire. Its botanical plates highlight the plants selected to create flowerbeds and enhance Parisian gardens.
Chromolithography—a printing process that uses multiple lithographic stones to reproduce different colors—allows for a nuanced rendering of the flowers and foliage. Here, the precision of botanical illustration is combined with a particularly decorative composition, with each plant standing out against a light background.
Each print is presented in a new gilded frame with a mat. As they are all the same size, they can be displayed individually, as a pair, or grouped together to form a wall arrangement.
