Pair Of Candelabra Featuring Winged Female Figures, Early 19th Century
An important pair of bronze candelabra with brown patina and gilded bronze from the early 19th century, each depicting an elegant winged female figure, dressed in a long tunic draped in the classical style, holding with both hands a leaf-adorned urn surmounted by a multi-armed light fixture.
The upper section features a composition of three leaf-adorned light arms, decorated with candlesticks and finials chiseled with gadroons and plant motifs. The central shaft is crowned with a flame motif, while the urn resting on the woman’s head forms the transition to the patinated bronze figure.
The female figures, meticulously modeled, are distinguished by the delicacy of their features, the movement of their drapery, and the naturalistic rendering of their hair. Their outstretched wings reinforce the allegorical character of the ensemble.
Each figure rests on a cylindrical gilded bronze pedestal, adorned with a neo-Gothic design of lancets and stylized foliage, surmounted by a dome with a scaly pattern and finished with a quadrangular base.
