Cat Orchestra - Vienna Bronze, Bergmann, Late 19th Century
A very amusing set of five polychrome Viennese bronze musician cats, forming a veritable little orchestra.
The ensemble includes a conductor, a cat playing the flute, another playing the mandolin, as well as a bass drum player and a cellist.
Each figure strikes a different pose, and the variations in size among the figures—ranging from about 4 to 6 cm in height—add a great deal of rhythm and whimsy to the ensemble and enhance the particularly amusing nature of this scene.
The cat playing the bass drum bears the stamp on the amphora with the letter B, the mark of the Franz Xaver Bergmann workshop.
Vienna, late 19th century.
Good overall condition.
Some wear to the polychrome, visible in the photographs and consistent with the piece’s age.
