"marguerite" Sentimental Pendant - French Work, Late 19th Century

A charming 18-karat yellow gold pendant set with a double-sided domed glass, engraved and painted on the reverse using a technique similar to that of the famous English crystals from Essex.

One side depicts a delicate daisy. The other is adorned with the date 1899, likely in memory of an important event for the person who commissioned it.

In the 19th century, sentiment jewelry served as true messengers of emotion. In the language of flowers, the daisy symbolizes the purity of feelings, fidelity, and sincere love. It was often given as a token of affection or a promise.

French craftsmanship from the late 19th century.
Eagle-head hallmark.
