Large Dachshund With A Double Bass – Viennese Bronze, Bergmann, Circa 1900
Amusing cold-painted Viennese bronze depicting a dachshund playing the double bass beside a streetlamp.
Of a good size for this type of piece, the composition stands 14.2 cm high. The large streetlamp brings the little scene to life and enhances both its presence and its humorous character.
This playful scene is typical of the anthropomorphic animal compositions produced in Vienna in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The piece bears the “B” within an amphora mark of the Franz Xaver Bergmann workshop.
Viennese work, circa 1900.
