Pig Reading The Newspaper, Viennese Bronze, Early 20th Century
Amusing cold-painted polychrome Viennese bronze depicting a pig seated on a small stool, absorbed in reading a newspaper.
The humorous scene is typical of the anthropomorphic animal bronzes produced in Vienna in the early 20th century. The large newspaper held in front of the animal enhances the lively and playful character of the composition.
The piece bears the “Austria” mark, together with a fleur-de-lis stamp, a mark associated with certain productions from the Franz Xaver Bergmann workshop in the early 20th century.
