A superb oval pastel portrait depicting an elegant young woman during the Second Empire. The subject is shown in a three-quarter bust view, with her hair styled in braids that fall in curls over her shoulders, and wearing a delicate pair of dangling earrings. She wears a sumptuous blue silk dress fastened with buttons, adorned with a wide neckline of refined white lace and a matching shawl or piece of fabric richly embroidered.
The work demonstrates the artist’s consummate mastery in rendering textures (silks, lace) and the softness of the facial expression.
Presented in its original wooden frame with gilded composition, richly molded with ova motifs, enhanced by its oval gilded mat and set behind period glass.
