Black-lacquered Wooden Letter Holder – Asian-style / Gold-accented Japanese-inspired Design
Antique three-tiered letter rack made of black-lacquered wood, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, in the Chinoiserie style and Japanese aesthetic that were very fashionable during the Napoleon III era. The piece is richly decorated with lively, polychrome painted scenes accented with gold, depicting traditional figures on bridges, fishermen by the river, and children at play on the sides. Its scroll-cut edges and the delicacy of its architectural and floral details make it a refined and highly functional decorative piece for a desk or as an accent piece. In good condition with a beautiful patina of age and original signs of wear.
