Tortoiseshell Case Inlaid With Gold, Napoleon III Period, 19th Century
An elegant rectangular case with rounded corners, entirely covered in light and dark tortoiseshell with warm highlights. The lid is adorned with a gold-piqué design: a scattering of six-pointed stars in the corners, accented by two scalloped garlands arched in a curve, executed with great finesse.
In the center, a gold cartouche in the shape of a coat of arms bears an engraved interlaced monogram, yet to be identified. The back features beautiful natural tortoiseshell with large amber and brown patches.
The edge is bound in fawn-colored leather with a checkered pattern and raised ribs. It features a push-button closure on the side. The interior is lined with red moiré silk and contains two compartments with leather flaps.
