French Trumeau With Painted Decoration And A Mythological Scene – 19th Century
An elegant trumeau made of painted and weathered wood, featuring an oil-on-canvas painting in its upper section depicting a mythological scene with Bacchic themes, surmounting a rectangular mirror.
The painted composition depicts Silenus accompanied by a satyr and a young putto, set in a wooded landscape. The figures, crowned with vine branches, evoke the world of Bacchus and the pleasures of celebration. The painting stands out for its warm tones, rosy skin tones, and the movement of the red drapery.
The architecturally styled frame, in the neoclassical style, features side panels with beaded moldings, punctuated by carved rosettes at the corners. The piece retains a lovely patina in shades of sea green and grayish white, with a slightly crackled finish.
The canvas has been re-stretched and exhibits a network of cracks as well as visible signs of age. The mirror and the painted parts of the trumeau also show a patina from use.
A decorative trumeau with slender proportions, combining mythological painting and a mirror, ideal for both classic and contemporary interiors.
