Large Directoire-style Overmantel Mirror In Lacquered And Gilded Wood – Winged Sphinxes – Late 19th Century
Large carved, lacquered, and gilded wooden wall mirror, crafted in the Directoire style. The pediment features a carved decoration of two facing winged sphinxes flanking a lyre, an emblematic motif of the Neoclassical aesthetic inspired by Antiquity. The uprights are decorated with polychrome carved motifs of stylized palmettes and shells, enhanced with gilding. The mirror is fitted with two bronze side sconces that need rewiring. These are removable and can be unscrewed, facilitating transport and installation. The antique mirror has a beautiful patina. Made in the late 19th century, in the Directoire style. Delivery available upon request, depending on destination.
