Artist: Jean-claude Duboys
Modular chair designed by French designer Jean-Claude Duboys (1938-1999), model A3, published by Attitude Editions circa 1980.Made from solid maple, this emblematic model perfectly illustrates Duboys' research into transformable and evolving furniture, at the crossroads of design and light architecture. The A3 model is the culmination of a modular system developed by the designer:The A1 model corresponds to the basic structure, in the form of a heaterThe addition of the headrest transforms the unit into the A2 modelFinally, the integration of the curved elements (glides) produces the A3 model, in a rocking-chair versionThis ingenious principle enables the seat to be progressively transformed according to use, testifying to advanced thinking on modularity and comfort. The openwork structure with vertical slats lends the whole a light visual touch, while ensuring solidity and seating flexibility. An example of this model is preserved in the collections of the Fonds National d'Art Contemporain (FNAC), under inventory number FNAC 2048. This model has not been produced since the 1990s.
