Louis XVI Period Trumeau In Carved And Gilded Woodwork – Gallant Scene

Important Louis XVI period overmantel mirror in carved and gilded woodwork –
a gallant scene with musical instruments. This elegant Louis XVI period overmantel mirror, crafted from carved and painted wood in ivory tones and delicately enhanced with gilding, presents a remarkably harmonious composition, typical of the refined taste of the late 18th century. The upper section is adorned with a charming gallant scene painted in a wooded landscape, where two elegant figures converse in a classical garden, evoking the spirit of country fêtes and sentimental painting of the period. In the background, architectural features and statues can be discerned, lending depth and a sense of poetry to the scene. The sculpted woodwork is punctuated by delicate ribbon bows and trophies of musical instruments, emblems of the arts and pleasures, finely carved and gilded, characteristic of Louis XVI ornamentation inspired by Antiquity and the Neoclassical repertoire. The lower section features a large arched mirror, elegantly framed with gilded molding and surmounted by an ornamental cartouche, bringing light and depth to the whole. This overmantel mirror, with its generous proportions (height: 195 cm – width: 135 cm), was originally a ceremonial element intended to adorn a drawing room or fireplace in a refined residence. The entire piece has undergone a complete restoration in our workshops: re-gilding, replacement of missing pieces, structural reinforcement, and general cleaning, respecting its antique character and finish. of origin.
