A. MAGNE Valved Cornet – Cherbourg
Former Chevrier Company, founded in 1854
Ref. SDC25COR001

Beautiful chrome-plated valve cornet, manufactured and engraved A. MAGNE CHERBOURG.

An elegant, meticulously crafted instrument, typical of French production from the late 19th/early 20th century.
The body is richly adorned with floral engravings and decorative motifs of very high quality, particularly intricate around the valves, on the ferrules, and on the bell.

It comes with its original twisted music stand—a highly distinctive decorative and functional element—as well as its mouthpiece and period accessories.
The instrument can be completely disassembled (see photos) and includes all its original parts; it is playable as is...

  • Total length: 34 cm
  • Bell diameter: 12 cm
Label and provenance

Inside the original case is the following label:
“Former Chevrier Company, founded in 1854 – for sale at A. MAGNE, luthier in Cherbourg.”

The instrument bears a clear engraving: A. MAGNE CHERBOURG.

The chrome plating is in very good overall condition—shiny and well-preserved.
The only blemish is a dent located on the bottom of the front handle.
The rest of the instrument is sound, the valves function properly, and the instrument as a whole remains very presentable and decorative.

Comes in its original wooden case lined with black cloth, with period hardware and lock; no key included, and the lock has not been tested. The case shows normal signs of wear consistent with its age but remains sturdy and complete.

A beautiful collector’s item, both musical and decorative, that will appeal to enthusiasts of antique brass instruments, regional Norman instrument-making, and art objects related to military or civilian music from the Belle Époque.
