Pair Of Two-light French Wall Sconces In Gilded Bronze In The Louis X Style
Pair of French wall sconces made of finely cast, chiseled, and gilded bronze, crafted in the Louis XVI style after a design by Jean Hauré, created in 1787 for the Château de Saint-Cloud. Each sconce features two light arms. The central shaft is adorned with a figure of a putto playing the flute and extends into an elaborate composition of foliage scrolls. Two volute-shaped arms extend from the central section and support lamp heads set on circular lamp bases. The entire piece is richly decorated with acanthus leaves, rosettes, garlands, and finely modeled spiral volutes, while the lower section is topped by a decorative caduceus motif. The quality of the cast bronze, the finesse of the hand-chiseled work, and the expressive modeling of the ornaments are characteristic of high-quality French bronze furnishings from the historicist period.
