Art Nouveau-style Marquetry Console Table, In The Style Of Louis Majorelle. France.
A French Art Nouveau console table, crafted in the style of Louis Majorelle, one of the leading figures of the École de Nancy. The piece is constructed of solid wood and veneered with fine woods. The square tabletop is adorned with pictorial marquetry depicting a landscape, composed of veneers of various wood species, using a technique characteristic of French cabinetmaking at the turn of the 20th century.
The structure is distinguished by its visual lightness and the expressive quality of its lines. Four elegantly curved legs are joined by scalloped crossbars and a spacer shelf, providing additional stability while emphasizing the piece’s vertical composition. The fluid lines, organic forms, and decorative treatment of the structure are emblematic characteristics of the Art Nouveau style. The high quality of craftsmanship and the finesse of the marquetry make this piece a remarkable example of French decorative arts from around 1900.
