Japanese Three-sword Holder (katana-kake). Japan, 20th Century

A decorative stand designed to display three Japanese swords (katana-kake), made in Japan in the 20th century from black-lacquered wood. Designed to display the katana, wakizashi, and tantō, it combines practical function with a highly elegant decorative design.

The structure consists of two finely carved side posts, each featuring three pairs of supports connected by a curved crossbar. The surface is coated with a deep black lacquer and embellished with mother-of-pearl inlays forming a refined decoration on the side panels, the base, and the borders. The central panel is adorned with a Japanese family crest (mon) rendered in gold lacquer within a circular medallion. It depicts a stylized tachibana (mandarin orange) flower, a traditional motif in Japanese heraldry symbolizing nobility, longevity, and family continuity.

This piece is a remarkable example of 20th-century Japanese decorative arts, crafted in the tradition of lacquer workshops. Such stands were used in both samurai residences and modern interiors to display collections of Japanese swords with dignity.

Dimensions: Height: 42.5 cm. Width: 44 cm.

Condition: In good condition. Slight signs of age and wear consistent with the period. The lacquer and mother-of-pearl inlays are well preserved...
