Mahogany And Gilded Bronze Display Cabinet. François Linke. France, Late 19th Century

A splendid three-door display cabinet crafted by the legendary French workshop of François Linke, embodying the luxury and refinement of late 19th-century decorative arts. Crafted from precious mahogany and richly adorned with finely chiseled gilded bronze.

The central door features an elegant gilded bronze composition set against a marquetry background. In the center, a muse holding a musical instrument symbolizes art and harmony. The figure stands on a fountain-shaped pedestal surrounded by finely modeled nymphs. The ensemble is complemented by floral garlands and vases overflowing with fruit, and crowned by two birds of paradise bearing a garland of roses and lilies.

The upper frieze is decorated with garlands, satyrs, and grotesque musical motifs, forming a lively scene imbued with classical symbolism. The corners are embellished with massive gilded bronze appliqués depicting mascarons and floral ornaments. The precision of the chiseling and the balance of the forms lend the piece exceptional elegance.

The top shelf is made of light Carrara marble veined with green, harmonizing beautifully with the warm tones of the mahogany. The beveled glass side doors accentuate the piece’s lightness, while the mirrored backs and glass shelves add depth and luminosity to the overall design. The display cabinet rests on tapered legs adorned with gilded bronze elements.
