Neo-rococo Chandelier With Baccarat Crystal Pendants, Third Quarter Of The 19th Century
A sumptuous multi-tiered chandelier from the height of the Historicist period, crafted in the Neo-Rococo style and combining a gilded bronze frame with intricate rocaille decoration and a rich array of cut-crystal pendants, garlands, and tassels. The composition stands out for its highly expressive decoration and creates the effect of palatial illumination characteristic of aristocratic interiors from the second half of the 19th century.
The chandelier’s structure is organized around an elongated central stem of clear glass, composed of profiled baluster elements. The eighteen light arms rest on curved bronze branches adorned with rocaille plant motifs and glass bobèches shaped like blooming flowers. The upper section is crowned with an openwork design embellished with suspended stars and long cascades of cut crystal.
The artistic expressiveness of the piece lies in the combination of gilded bronze and transparent crystal in various cuts: faceted beads, elongated prisms, and large teardrop-shaped pendants come together to form a refined, luminous structure characteristic of the grand European interiors of the historicist era.
