Gilded Bronze Chandelier In The Napoleon III Style, France, Second Half Of The 19th Century
An imposing French chandelier in gilded bronze, crafted in the Napoleon III style, exemplifying the refined eclecticism of the Second Empire. The design centers around a massive central shaft richly adorned with rocaille scrolls, acanthus leaves, and sculpted elements. Elegantly curved arms extend from the shaft, forming ten light points.
Each arm is topped by a frosted glass shade shaped like a blooming fleur-de-lis. The softness of the glass contrasts harmoniously with the brilliance of the gilded bronze. The central section is embellished with sculpted figures of winged griffins, traditional symbols of strength and protection. The lower section is decorated with putti, emphasizing the piece’s solemn and theatrical character.
The upper section is crowned by a cobalt-blue sphere adorned with applied gold stars and a decorative frieze. A radiant, sun-shaped finial dominates the piece, accentuating its allegorical and triumphal character. The chandelier is electrified and fully functional.
