Oval Table In Mahogany And Gilded Bronze In The Louis XVI Style. Based On A Design By Adam Weisweiler.

An oval table made in France in the late 19th century based on a design by the famous Parisian cabinetmaker Adam Weisweiler, constituting a remarkable example of decorative French furniture in the Louis XVI style.

The frame is made of wood and veneered with carefully selected mahogany. The tabletop features a complex shape, close to an oval, punctuated by four rounded projections corresponding to the placement of the curved legs. The entire surface is adorned with geometric marquetry, whose tones contrast with the fine gilded bronze border.

The edge of the tabletop, as well as the sides of the band, are highlighted by linear gilt-bronze trim, notable for the quality of its casting, chasing, and gilding. The decorative repertoire features motifs traditionally associated with French Neoclassicism and interpreted in the style of antiquity, notably ribbons, foliage motifs, floral rosettes, cornucopias, reclining rams, and female mascarons.

The table rests on four elegantly curved legs, adorned at the top with gilded bronze mounts depicting female heads. The lower ends are finished with gilded bronze feet decorated with foliage motifs in relief.

A drawer is concealed within the front section of the apron and skillfully integrated into the overall design. Its front is adorned with gilded bronze decoration that extends the motif found on the other sides of the apron, so that this functional element remains almost imperceptible.

The combination of mahogany, geometric marquetry, and finely chiseled gilded bronze lends this table great distinction and reflects the tradition of high-quality French cabinetmaking of the late 19th century.
