Louis XV-style Desk, France, Second Half Of The 19th Century
An elegant double-sided wooden writing desk, richly inlaid and adorned with gilded bronze, crafted in the Louis XV style. The harmony of its sinuous lines and architectural structure creates a rare balance between representative solemnity and intimate refinement.
The body is decorated with intricate diamond-patterned marquetry crafted from precious woods in shades of amber and chestnut. The front is accentuated by substantial gilded bronze elements featuring Rocaille volutes, cartouches, and openwork details. The central section is highlighted by a mascaron depicting a mythological face framed by a radiant shell, lending the piece a theatrical dynamism.
The curved cabriole legs end in gilded bronze feet and are embellished with vertical plant motifs. The apron is framed by a profiled gilded bronze molding that accentuates the undulating line of the top. The top features a built-in writing surface. The desk has three drawers and is fully decorated on both sides, allowing it to be displayed as a centerpiece in any interior.
This piece reflects the essential characteristics of 19th-century French Historicism, reinterpreting the Rococo aesthetic with a virtuoso mastery of bronze and marquetry.
