Pontifical Indulgence With A Bull By Pius VII (pius Papa VII) Rome, Vatican, Early 19th Century

Papal indulgence on parchment, written in Latin and issued in the name of Pope Pius VII. The document is an official act of the Apostolic Chancery, executed in accordance with curial tradition, featuring characteristic calligraphic script and the solemn legal formulas typical of papal bulls and letters of that era.

The text contains formulas of apostolic grant, including the granting of an indulgence and participation in the spiritual goods of the Catholic Church. The mention of the recipient—Sigebaldus—emphasizes the personal nature of the document, distinguishing it from the printed indulgences widely distributed in previous centuries. Such documents were issued to particularly deserving clergy or laypersons in recognition of their piety and devotion to the Church.

The document bears its original papal lead seal inscribed with “Pius Papa VII,” suspended from a cord, attesting to its authenticity and official status. The composition is enhanced with marginal ornamental elements characteristic of early 19th-century Roman chancery practices.
