Jacob Petit France Perfume Bottle, Mid-19th Century
A rare and elegant perfume bottle made of polychrome porcelain with rich gilding, characteristic of the Jacob Petit manufactory. The design is distinguished by a complex architectural form: a hexagonal body set within an openwork base resting on sculpted feet shaped like stylized swans, lavishly gilded. The relief decoration featuring Rocaille motifs and the finely modeled details reflect the Neo-Rococo aesthetic, which was particularly in vogue in France under Louis-Philippe and during the Second Empire.
The panels of the body are adorned with hand-painted floral bouquets and decorative cartouches in deep shades of green and purple. The rich palette of enamels is paired with a matte, burnished gilding, creating an effect of refined opulence. The upper section retains its removable stopper with a wide, disc-shaped grip and a gilded neck. Inside, there is a glass reservoir for the perfume.
The piece exemplifies Jacob Petit’s signature characteristics: an eclectic form, a theatrical silhouette, and a bold use of gilding and contrasting polychromy. The blue mark on the underside, featuring a stylized “JP” monogram, confirms its attribution to the manufactory.
Markings: Blue “JP” mark on the base.
