"walk In The Rain," Hst By W. Roland, 1860–1870

Painting – Genre scene featuring white horses and figures under a red parasol

Oil on canvas signed “W. ROLAND” in red in the lower left corner, set in an elegant antique frame of molded and carved wood, accented with gilding and adorned with a cartouche bearing the same name.

The composition depicts a picturesque genre scene featuring two figures sheltered under a red parasol, accompanied by two magnificent white horses.

The contrast between the whiteness of the horses, the nuanced tones of the landscape, and the vivid pop of color from the parasol lends the work a special charm and a beautiful decorative presence.

The figurative treatment of the scene, the attention paid to the figures’ poses, and the equine silhouettes evoke a painting in the European tradition, in a naturalistic and anecdotal spirit.

The canvas is enhanced by a beautiful antique frame, complemented by a signature cartouche bearing the artist’s name, which reinforces the work’s overall aesthetic unity.

Period: 19th century, circa 1860–1870.

Signature: W. ROLAND, in red, lower left.

Medium: oil on canvas.

Presentation: antique carved and gilded frame with a cartouche bearing the same name.

A distinctive work, captivating for its equestrian subject, its dynamism, and its traditional framing; ideal for a classic decor or a collection of antique figurative paintings.
