L'Escalier de cristal, created in 1804 by Marie Désarnaud, is located at Palais royal, n° 162 and 163. The shop was taken over around 1847 by Lahoche et Boin, then Lahoche et Pannier in 1857 and finally Pannier Frères from 1890 to 1923[2]. When Marie Désarnaud founded her establishment, she had the idea of combining cut crystal with gilded bronze. The quality of her creations was unanimously recognized at the 1819 Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie Française, where she won a gold medal with the Duchesse de Berry's dressing table[3].
It was only towards the end of Louis-Philippe's reign, on the initiative of the Pannier brothers[4], that the store extended its activity to the furniture trade and began manufacturing cabinetry furniture around 1870, offering for sale both creations and reproductions of xviiie century furniture[5].
