Amputation And Trepanation By Charrière - 1863
Artist: Frédéric Charrière
Charrière Amputation and Trepanation Case, dated 1863.
The box, which is relatively complete, is signed “Charrière, Paris” on its lock. It bears the inscription “No. 2 Amputations and Trepanations” and a large label affixed to the inside of the lid bearing the title “Box No. Amputation and Trepanation (large box)” and dated “May 1863.”
The lower tray contains a complete and uniform set of seven amputation knives, all signed by Charrière, a hand trephine with an additional ring, six scalpels (out of 12), a large tourniquet, and a Larey compression pad.
The upper tray, housed inside the lid, contains an amputation saw with its replacement blades, a small amputation saw, a screw extractor, two cannulas, three forceps, needles, a curved knife, and an elevator with a rugine.
A few items are missing, as visible in the photos; however, the box is very complete and, above all, uniform.
The box measures 43x20x9 cm.
