Rare bronze oil lamp filler dating from the Early Christian period, of Byzantine manufacture, 6th–9th century A.D.

This elegant little utensil features a hemispherical reservoir, extended by a long spout that allows for the precise pouring of oil into oil lamps, as well as a handle that facilitates its use.

With its highly functional form, this object is an example of an everyday accessory associated with the use of oil lamps, which were ubiquitous in domestic and religious life during Late Antiquity and the Byzantine period. Objects of a similar shape are known as lamp fillers in the specialized literature.
